Garapa Hard Wood –
RealGarapa - Decking: Common Name:
Grapia. Other less common names for garapa decking are Brazilian
Oak, Amarealao, Marotoa, Muiratua, Muirajuba and Garrote.
Garapa hard wood –
RealGarapa - decking is lemon-yellow becoming light
(honey) brown with age. Garapa decking has a slight ribbon like
aspect, watery, wavelike or similar to silk appearance.
Garapa hard wood –
RealGarapa - decking is naturally resistant to wood
decay and insect damage. It also has a class A fire rating – the
same as concrete. Garapa hard wood –
RealGarapa - decking is naturally scratch resistant
and has an estimated useful life of 25 years. Deck oil preservation
treatments will actually add even more years to the life of this
very durable wood decking. Garapa wood –
RealGarapa - decking is comparable to Ipe in
durability, grain and workability at a lower price. Finishing this

RealGarapa - decking with brown – tinted oil provides
a soft brown finish similar to ipe without the color variation from
board to board that is characteristic of ipe hard wood decking. Go

Cutting and Drilling: Carbide tipped blades and bits are
recommended for very durable garapa hard wood –

Shrinkage: Garapa hard wood –
RealGarapa - decking is kiln dried and has minimal
shrinkage after installation
Span recommended on decks for garapa –
RealGarapa - decking is 16” for net ¾” x 5 ½” decking.
12” spans are used when supporting hot tubs, overhead structures and
longer joist spans.
End wax is very useful at preventing end splits after you
cut and install boards. Applying a water-based liquid wax emulsion
after cutting the end of every board prevents end splits and ensures
the best results.

The main species of garapa –
RealGarapa - decking, Apuleia leiocarpa is found
