Material Snapshot — Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.)
Purpleheart is an extremely dense South American hardwood recognized for its strength, durability, and distinctive natural coloration. Comparable to Ipe in hardness and performance, it is well suited for exterior applications where longevity and material resilience are critical.
Common Uses
Decking, boardwalks, piers, public seating, exterior trim, and architectural applications. Used in both residential and commercial environments, including high-traffic installations.
Appearance & Grade
Select to premium appearance with a tight, uniform grain. Freshly milled material displays a vibrant purple hue that gradually transitions to deeper brown and reddish tones with UV exposure. Natural resin may surface along grain lines during acclimation, creating subtle grain accenting that weathers naturally over time.
Available Profiles
1×6 decking, tongue-and-groove, smooth, E4E, RainScreen Siding, and grooved profiles. Custom milling available for architectural and specialty applications.
Durability & Performance
Naturally resistant to rot, decay, insects, mold, and moisture. Purpleheart’s exceptional density and hardness provide long-term performance in demanding outdoor conditions without the need for chemical treatment.
Origin
Harvested from managed forests in South America, with sourcing focused on material consistency, quality control, and responsible forestry practices.
