Choosing Dimensional Lumber
Brazilian hardwood dimensional lumber is used for a wide range of structural, architectural, and custom applications where strength, durability, and long-term exterior performance are important. Our selection is primarily Ipe and includes heavy-duty profiles such as 2×4, 2×6, and 4×4, along with additional sizes for specialized applications.
Unlike decking, there is no single recommended dimensional lumber size—the appropriate profile depends entirely on how the material will be used. Common applications include posts, framing, stairs, benches, gates, pergolas, rail components, and custom fabrication. Working With Ipe Dimensional Lumber
Ipe is exceptionally dense and hard, which contributes to its strength and durability but also makes proper tools and techniques important when cutting, drilling, and fastening the material.
Pre-drilling is generally recommended when fastening Ipe, particularly with larger screws and structural hardware. Carbide-tipped blades and quality woodworking tools are also recommended when cutting or fabricating dense Brazilian hardwoods.
