Ipe 5″ Interior Plank Flooring

Ipe interior plank flooring is tongue-and-groove milled on all four sides, with two tongue edges and two groove edges. This end-matched profile allows each board to interlock along both its sides and ends, creating a secure, continuous flooring surface while allowing boards to terminate between joists or subfloor fastening points.

3.5″ Tongue And Groove

Our 3.5″ tongue-and-groove hardwood is designed for covered porch, patio, and other protected exterior flooring applications, where its narrower profile creates a tight, traditional plank appearance. These boards are tongue-and-groove milled along the long edges and are not end-matched. The continuous tongue-and-groove profile along both sides helps support and tie the boards together throughout the installation. For best performance, 3.5″ T&G should be installed in covered, well-protected exterior areas that are not directly exposed to rain or standing water.

5″ Tongue And Groove

Our 5″ tongue-and-groove hardwood is designed for covered porch, patio, and other protected exterior applications, offering the same solid Brazilian hardwood construction in a wider selection of species. These boards are milled with tongue-and-groove connections along the long edges and are not end-matched. The continuous tongue-and-groove profile along both sides helps support and tie the boards together throughout the installation. For best performance, 5″ T&G should be installed in covered, well-protected exterior areas that are not directly exposed to rain or standing water.

Why Hardwood Flooring from Brazilian Wood Depot Stands Out

Brazilian hardwood offers exceptional hardness, natural beauty, and long-term durability for both interior flooring and covered exterior living spaces.

For interior hardwood flooring, we offer solid Ipe flooring, providing the durability and distinctive character of genuine Brazilian hardwood inside the home. Visit our Brazilian Hardwood Flooring page to learn more about our Ipe flooring.

Our other Brazilian hardwood tongue-and-groove products are intended for covered porches, patios, and other protected exterior spaces, allowing the natural look and feel of Brazilian hardwood to extend from the home into outdoor living areas. These products are available in several species, including Ipe, Cumaru, Garapa, Brown Balau, Massaranduba, and Tigerwood.

Choosing the Right Brazilian Hardwood Flooring

Brazilian hardwood flooring offers a combination of natural beauty, exceptional density, and long-term durability that is difficult to match with conventional flooring materials. Our Brazilian Hardwood Flooring page provides an overview of our solid hardwood flooring options and the characteristics that make Brazilian hardwoods well suited for interior applications.

One of the first decisions is choosing the species, width, and profile that best fits the look of your space. Brazilian hardwood species can vary significantly in color, grain, hardness, and natural character—from the rich brown tones of Ipe and Cumaru to the dramatic striping of Tigerwood. Because these are natural solid-wood products, variation between individual boards is part of the finished floor and can create a much richer appearance than a manufactured or printed flooring surface.

Flooring Profiles and End Matching

Our Ipe interior plank flooring is tongue-and-groove milled on all four sides, with two tongue edges and two groove edges. This end-matched profile allows each board to interlock along both its sides and ends, creating a secure, continuous flooring surface and simplifying board placement during installation.

We also offer other Brazilian hardwood tongue-and-groove profiles that can be used for interior flooring. Our 5″ T&G profiles are available in additional species and feature tongue-and-groove connections along the long edges. These boards are not end-matched, so the ends require appropriate support and fastening during installation, but they provide an excellent option for customers who want solid Brazilian hardwood flooring in a wider selection of species.

Our narrower 3.5″ tongue-and-groove hardwood profiles are most commonly associated with covered porch flooring, but they can also be used indoors when a narrower, more traditional plank appearance is desired. Like our 5″ profiles, these boards are not end-matched and require additional consideration at the board ends during installation.

Installation and Project Planning

Solid hardwood flooring requires careful planning before installation. The subfloor, fastening method, board layout, moisture conditions, and installation environment should all be considered before work begins. Non-end-matched tongue-and-groove products require particular attention to board-end placement and support, while end-matched flooring provides greater flexibility in laying out individual boards.

Because Brazilian hardwoods are exceptionally dense, proper tools and fastening techniques are also important. Planning the layout before installation can help distribute natural color and grain variation throughout the room while minimizing unnecessary cuts and material waste.

If you are considering one of our tongue-and-groove products for an interior application and are unsure which profile is appropriate, contact Brazilian Wood Depot before ordering. Our team can help you compare the available species and profiles based on the appearance and installation requirements of your project.

Finishing, Cleaning, and Long-Term Maintenance

One of the major advantages of solid Brazilian hardwood flooring is its ability to be maintained and refinished over its service life. Unlike flooring products that rely on a thin hardwood wear layer, solid hardwood provides real wood throughout the thickness of the board.

The final appearance can be influenced by the species itself as well as the sanding and finishing system selected for the project. Natural color, grain, and board-to-board variation should be considered part of the design rather than something that needs to be hidden.

Routine cleaning and appropriate interior wood-floor care can help preserve the finished surface, while solid construction provides the opportunity for future sanding and refinishing when necessary.
